   OPENS IN NEW WINDOW
A Life In Pieces
NEW!

A Life In Pieces was aired over the Christmas/New Year period of 1990-'91. The show was produced by Peter Fincham, at Talkback, which at that time was owned by Mel Smith & Griff Rhys Jones. The series was written by Peter Cook & Rory McGrath, but as always Cook had difficulties performing other people's gags and ended up rewriting some of the material at very short notice.

Apparently the original idea was for Peter Cook to be interviewed by Sir Edward Heath (the Conservative, ex-Prime Minister), who turned it down flat. Instead Ludovic Kennedy was given the job of interviewing Sir Arthur Streeb-Greebling.

The series is made up of twelve, five minutes shows, based around the The Twelve Days of Christmas.

Sir Arthur seems to have a strange sadness about him (and no small measure of lunacy), as he reminisces about his past. If the show seems slightly stilted at times, it's possibly because Peter Cook and Ludovic Kennedy filmed their questions and answers seperately.

I shall be adding these files one at a time, they are available here both in mp3 format and as DivX-avi video files.

RADIO BROADCAST

We believe Peter Cook only appeared three times on BBC Radio Four's celebrity panel show "Just A Minute". The object of the show is to speak on a given subject for one minute without hesitation, repetition or deviation.

Towards the end of 1979 Peter Cook appeared on BBC Radio Four's celebrity gameshow "Just A Minute". The object of the show is to speak on a given subject for one minute without hesitation, repetition or deviation. Peter Cook completes the whole minute on the subject "A Remarkable Occurrence".

Letters
Lin Cook, Harry Thompson and "Rainbow" George Weiss all have a minor spat, via the letters page of The Evening Standard, regarding Harry's book "Peter Cook. A Biography." Read the letters here.

Video

Material from five different Peter Cook shows:

Behind The Fridge
(1973)

Goodbye Again
(1967)

Saturday Night Live
(1975)

Peter Cook & Co.
(1980)

As yet, I've only created a page for the NOBA material. As soon as the other pages are finished I'll make the usual announcement via the Update List.

These files have been recorded in DivX format, using the latest DivX 5.1 codec. If you're not sure if this codec is installed on your machine, go to http://www.divx.com/ - download and instal the "Standard DivX Codec(FREE)". Links to Mac & Linux versions are also available.

THE TWO OF US

"The Two Of Us" is a US TV-sitcom, featuring Peter Cook, Mimi Kennedy and Dana Hill. Peter Cook played Robert Brentwood, an English butler.

Some time ago, the webmistress of a Dana Hill tribute site (details long since lost, sorry) sent me a small video clip from The Two Of Us.

[ Download: The Two Of Us DivX|1m01s|1.68mb ]

Unfortunately the video file is of rather poor quality - I find it more watchable if viewed at "100%" or "Original Size". Making the picture size larger, only makes the quality worse.

We now have features on The Two Of Us from two seperate American TV programme schedules:

TV Guide | TV NEWS

If you can provide Anne T'ing with any information or material relating to The Two Of Us, please get in touch. Thanks.

INTERVIEW This interview with Chris Morris first appeared in Issue 13 of Pub & Bed, and details his thoughts on Peter Cook and the making of "Why Bother?"

SOUNDS

Both of these tracks were commercially released and use Peter Cook samples. There's not a great deal of Peter Cook in either record, and so may be of interest only to the most verdant of 'spotters:

POETRY A poem entitled "Random Thoughts On Peter Cook" by John Dowie. John ended his set at the 5th meeting of the PCAS with this poem, to rapturous applase.

AN APPLE A DAY From John Antrobus's script, we present a summary of 'An Apple A Day', the long lost 1971 teleplay starring Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, along with some of the dialogue to give you a flavour of the show.

CARTOON "The Satirist", drawn by Willie Rushton, written by Rushton & Christopher Booker (an old friend of Cook's from Cambridge). The cartoon first appeared in Private Eye as part of the "ÆSOP revisited" series. Some refer to it as an early prediction Peter Cook's life - graphics intensive, may take a minute to load.
