A Life In Pieces was aired over the Christmas/New Year period
of 1990-'91. The show was produced by Peter Fincham, at Talkback,
which at that time was owned by Mel Smith & Griff Rhys
Jones. The series was written by Peter Cook & Rory McGrath,
but as always Cook had difficulties performing other people's
gags and ended up rewriting some of the material at very short
notice.
Apparently the original idea was for Peter Cook to be interviewed
by Sir Edward Heath (the Conservative, ex-Prime Minister),
who turned it down flat. Instead Ludovic Kennedy was given
the job of interviewing Sir Arthur Streeb-Greebling.
The series is made up of twelve, five minutes shows, based
around the The Twelve Days of Christmas.
Sir Arthur seems to have a strange sadness about him (and
no small measure of lunacy), as he reminisces about his past.
If the show seems slightly stilted at times, it's possibly
because Peter Cook and Ludovic Kennedy filmed their questions
and answers seperately.
I shall be adding these files one at a time, they are available
here both in mp3 format and
as DivX-avi video files.
